Concentrated construction expertise — demolition, stone crafts and industrial construction

When building the new Dopetsberger adventure nursery in Wels, the Felbermayr Group is showing its versatility. Several areas work hand in hand here — from dismantling the old plant to the construction of the rainwater basin to concrete and paving work by the subsidiary Casawest and industrial construction for the district heating connection. The result is one of the most modern nurseries.

The new Dopetsberger adventure nursery in Wels was officially opened at the beginning of March. With the opening ceremony, an extensive construction project, which the various trades of the Felbermayr Group have supported from the outset, came to a successful conclusion. The traditional nursery today employs around 60 people and built its first own greenhouse at its location in Wels back in 1982. With the current new building, the plant is expanding to a total area of around 15,000 square meters. The demolition specialists from Felbermayr-Tiefbau made the start, who started dismantling the old plant in June. “In just three weeks, we dismantled three greenhouses piece by piece — one of them in close proximity to the existing building, where precision down to the last centimeter was required,” reports Construction Manager Civil Engineering Austria Demolition Florian Beschta.

The building and industrial building then took over the construction of an underground rainwater basin with a capacity of around 640 cubic meters and the expansion of the commercial space by 300 square meters. In addition, a lift shaft was built in the existing building, which allows barrier-free access to the office wing above the commercial space. Slavisa Kesic, construction manager for building, industrial and power plant construction, shows how intensive this work was: “The lift shaft was really manual work: In the cramped conditions and during ongoing business operations, the use of a crane was out of the question. So we picked up each brick individually and built up the shaft brick by brick. ”

Casawest designs concrete floors and outdoor areas The Felbermayr subsidiary Casawest is responsible
for paving the sales areas and designing the extensive outdoor area. From the beginning of September, the natural stone specialist from Pucking will be fine-tuning the company premises — with a large parking area and redesigned paths and access roads. “The asphalted outdoor area and the redesigned green spaces are the first things customers see. Our goal is to create paths and areas that are functional and inviting and underline the overall impression of a modern nursery,” explains Casawest site manager Helmut Schmidt.

Industrial construction for district heating network
Another central construction project of the nursery is the connection to the district heating network of the energy supplier eww. The Wels-based family business is thus focusing on a sustainable energy supply and reducing the use of fossil fuels. The Felbermayr Infrastructure Department is responsible for excavating the necessary skills. “For the new district heating connection, we are digging a 124 meter long and 1.20 meter deep box. Time is running out, because the nursery must be connected by the beginning of October,” explains Martin Jellen, Austrian Civil Engineering Construction Manager.

Fit for tomorrow
The new Dopetsberger nursery is not only being expanded, but is also being brought up to date with the latest technology. In addition to a sustainable heat supply, rainwater is collected from the roof areas and used for irrigation. The sustainable concept of the nursery is supplemented by photovoltaic systems.

With this major project, the Felbermayr Group is making a significant contribution to the development of one of Austria's leading horticultural companies — and at the same time shows how different departments and competencies within the Group are harmoniously intertwined.
