Back in 2013, the internationally active full-service heavy goods logistics provider Felbermayr took over the Duisburg-based company Haeger & Schmidt Logistics with its core competencies in the areas of Inland Navigation, Short Sea, Intermodal, Port Logistics as well as Projects, Shipping & Forwarding and iCargo Solutions. With 250 employees at twelve sites throughout Europe and a turnover of 250 million euros, the company is one of the leading providers of logistics solutions in the European inland waterway network.
Haeger & Schmidt on course for growth
For Horst Felbermayr, CEO of the holding company of the same name, the acquisition of shares in Rijnmond Logistics represents a further logical step towards expansion in shipping logistics: "The strategic investment in Rijnmond Logistics and the close cooperation with Haeger & Schmidt Logistics expand our service portfolio considerably and strengthen our position in the industry enormously".
For Heiko Brückner as CEO of Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL), the participation is a vote of confidence in ten years of successful partnership with Felbermayr: "We are delighted with the decision to invest in Rijnmond Logistics and thus drive forward the expansion of the Haeger & Schmidt Group. The team led by Cees van Putten is a significant addition for us." Furthermore, people are the focus for him: "Thanks to their expertise and the close cooperation, we can offer our customers an even broader and more efficient range of services in inland waterway logistics.
Rijnmond Logistics benefits from synergies
Cees van Putten, Managing Director of Rijnmond Logistics has over 30 years of experience in shipping logistics. In addition to the headquarters in Papendrecht, not far from Rotterdam, the company also operates another sites in Schengen (LU) with 40 employees.
With two of its own coupled push barges and one motor vessel, as well as around 20 independently owned vessels and charter vessels, Rijnmond Logistics has a chartering capacity of 79,000 tonnes. For Van Putten, this participation is a decisive positive reorientation of his company: "The partnership with Felbermayr and the close cooperation with Haeger & Schmidt Logistics open up new opportunities and synergies to offer our customers even better and more efficient solutions." Examples of this are the HSL logistics centre in Duisburg with its heated steel hall, as well as the Felbermayr port terminals in Krefeld on the Rhine, Linz on the Danube and Vienna/Albern. Thanks to the Felbermayr philosophy of having three transport modes, all sites have rail and road connections. Extensive storage facilities expand the range of services from which the Dutch inland shipping company will also benefit in the future.
