Felbermayr employee apartment block

Up-to-date information about the construction progress at a glance

At the start of November in the north of Wels, building work began on a 1,300 square metre plot of land to construct an apartment block for the company's non-resident employees. The project is being financed entirely by the company's own construction business unit and is being realised with the significant involvement of apprentices from the building construction and civil engineering divisions. Specifically, the project will include apprenticeships in building construction, civil engineering and concrete construction, office management, construction technology assistance and surveying technology. Plans were drawn up for a building containing 73 attractive and high-quality individual apartments.

The temporary accommodation with living spaces ranging from 19 to 29 square metres will encompass three floors with a total floor area of 800 square metres. A communal room with a sheltered terrace, green spaces and parking areas, as well as a green façade will further enhance living comfort.

Situated in the immediate vicinity of the B1 main road and the A8 motorway, the location in Eferdingerstraße offers outstanding transport connections and countless shopping facilities.

Completion is planned for autumn 2024.

Final push

December 2024 | With the outfit of the interior, the company’s in-house construction project is entering the final straight. 76 modern single rooms will be ready to occupy from the start of the coming year. They will offer a high level of comfort: this includes televisions, fridges, wi-fi and a private bathroom with shower and toilet. To maintain the quality in the long term, a professional cleaning company has been appointed to keep the rooms clean and tidy continuously. Each room that is occupied permanently will be cleaned once per week. In addition to long-term use, the accommodation is also intended for those Felbermayr employees who travel from a great distance.

Nominated for the State Prize for Training Organisations

November 2024 | In addition to the completion of the shell construction, the project managers and apprentices celebrated another success. Felbermayr's commitment also impressed the jury of the Austrian State Prize for Training Organisations, which nominated the practical training programme for the construction of the employee residence out of 168 companies and 200 projects. Felbermayr was among the top three in the category “Good Practice Examples in Training Companies with over 50 Apprentices” and was invited to the award ceremony in Vienna on 17 October.

Topping-out ceremony

May 2024 | On 13 May, exactly six months to the day after the ground-breaking ceremony, the general management and the apprentices involved in the project were delighted to celebrate the ceremonial completion of the shell construction.

Final push for shell construction

April 2024 | The shell construction is eagerly awaiting completion this month with the final work to finish the second floor. The formwork elements for the walls were first erected by crane at the beginning of April. Once the reinforcement and formwork had been completed, the first section of the ceiling was also concreted in April. The second section of the ceiling, including the parapet, will be completed at the end of April. This means that the expansion work can begin as soon as the beginning of May.

LAUNCH OF THE "APPRENTICE WORKSHOP"

March 2024 | Shuttering, reinforcing, concreting, bricklaying, surveying: The apprentices started the practical phase of the "Apprentice Workshop" training programme at the beginning of February. The trainees had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in two groups. Following the complete concreting of the ceiling sections above the ground floor, the insulated cavity walls on the first floor were repositioned and the brick walls completed. The shuttering work for the first ceiling section above the first floor was commenced last.

Concrete construction for basement and ground floor

February 2024 | After completing the basement outer and inner walls, the concreting for the basement ceiling and the floor slab for the ground floor was able to be completed shortly before the turn of the year. Furthermore, the insulated cavity walls on the ground floor and the cavity walls for the lift were put up and filled with concrete. At the start of the new year, we were able to start the formwork and concrete works for the in-situ walls on the ground floor.

GROUNDING-BREAKING AND THE START OF CONSTRUCTION

November 2023 | On 13 November, Felbermayr’s apprentices celebrated the official ground-breaking ceremony for their practical project together with Mayor Dr Andreas Rabl, the management and employees responsible for the project. Working under the guidance of experienced colleagues, they are performing the planning and calculation works, and building the apartment block.

At the start of November, work began on setting up the construction site, including erecting containers, providing electricity and water and installing the site fence. Once the construction pit for the partial basement had been excavated, the waste water duct was connected to the connection duct. A lift pit and shaft for the lifting system were constructed for the work on the floor slab in the basement. The floor slab with an area of around 300 square metres was then concreted in a single stage.

Concreting the interior and exterior basement walls is set to follow by the end of November. The formwork for the ceiling and the exterior basement walls will be simultaneously sealed against moisture using bitumen sheets, insulated and backfilled as soon as possible. This will be followed by the excavation work for the strip foundations on the ground floor.
