Crane operation for a paper producer

For around 20 years, Sappi, which is based in Gratkorn and labels itself as the largest manufacturer of paper in the world, has produced high-quality paper for the printing industry. In February, Felbermayr Transport and Lifting Technology began a transport order for the replacement of a boiler system used to produce wood pulp. Lifting work followed.

The transporting of 18 pipe elbows for the ventilation system signalled the start of the extensive preparatory work. The Lenzing Technik factory in Lenzing was the starting point. The components were roughly four metres wide and high, eight metres long and weighed around ten tons. Drop deck trailers and mega trailers were used as transport vehicles. Furthermore, from March to June, multiple platforms and forklift trucks, as well as a mobile construction crane and a telescopic crane with a maximum load capacity of 200 tons, were on the building site.

An LTM1400 was used to lift the four modules of the boiler system, each weighing 27 tons, into and out of place. A crane with a maximum load capacity of 400 tons was necessary due to a radius of 30 metres. For this operation, the crane was equipped with 140 tons of ballast and a luffing jib.
