RCG and Felbermayr — successful cooperation continues
November 7, 2025 | Moritz Glück
The cooperation between RCG and ITB is one of the industry's longest-standing success stories. Since the mid-1990s, both companies have been combining their strengths for oversized cargos in rail freight transport. With the extension of the partnership, the proven cooperation remains the basis for predictable capacities, well-established processes and a high level of reliability. “Cooperation with ITB is characterized by mutual trust, professionalism and a shared understanding of quality. This reliability is the basis for us to be able to successfully implement complex projects in the future as well,” highlights Mario Potzinger, RCG Key Account Manager Special Transport.
Three decades of RCG and ITB
RCG and ITB look back on more than 30 exciting years in heavy rail transport. When the joint journey began in the mid-1990s, the transport volume was still a fraction of the current volume. “The 449-ton transformer for the Lienz substation in East Tyrol remains an absolute highlight during this time — a logistical masterpiece of planning, equipment and seamless interface work,” remembers Thomas Grabuschnigg, ITB Division Manager. “In recent decades, we have been able to continuously expand our capacities — always with the aim of implementing complex projects safely, efficiently and on time,” says Grabuschnigg and states: “To this day, we work at the highest level in the European heavy-duty sector and meet customer requirements in unison — with great commitment and considerable transport volumes, which we handle year after year.”
Energy transition as a growth driver
The green transformation and the resulting network expansion with new and expanded substations are increasing the need for heavy transport and multimodal solutions in order to be able to transport the corresponding components across Europe. “Our product segment of exceptional shipments meets these requirements precisely — together with RCG, we are well prepared for this,” says Grabuschnigg.
Exchange in Weiz confirmed course
During the joint exchange on October 17 in Weiz, both partners solemnly reaffirm their continued cooperation. The joint commitment: Securing capacities, using synergies and targeting cooperation for the energy transition. With the extension until 31.12.2034, RCG and ITB are sending a strong signal of continuity, quality and reliability. The cooperation thus remains the stable backbone for demanding heavy transport by rail — today and in the coming years.
